Business mentors are for life, not just for start ups
Alexander the Great was mentored by Aristotle, Marc Benioff (CEO, salesforce.com) was mentored by Steve Jobs and Jack Nicklaus is mentor to Sergio Garcia. Whether you are a King, CEO or professional sports person, it makes no difference it’s easy to get caught up in the day-to-day running of your business, and surprisingly easy to lose sight of your overall goals. Sustained growth when you are working in your business [and not on your business] is increasingly difficult as time passes.
No matter how experienced or gifted a business owner feels they may be, they will still undoubtedly encounter hurdles that they find difficult to address, either personally or within the organisation as a whole. Not knowing the best steps to take to negotiate the road to success during these times is common and one that a process of mentoring can help overcome.
Despite the fact that employing a mentor is becoming increasingly popular for both small businesses and large organisations seeking to improve their business performance, a lot of business owners fail to see the benefits of mentoring and the value of having someone who is not connected with the business to confide in. However, mentoring can affect businesses in a very tangible way.
As well as being able to identify strengths and opportunities for business growth, mentors are not emotionally involved in your business and can therefore bring [sometimes much needed] objectivity to the table; a fresh pair of eyes, an unbiased opinion and someone to talk through new ideas with.
According to the Federation of Small Businesses, research shows that ‘70% of small businesses that receive mentoring survive for five years or more, which is double the rate compared with non-mentored entrepreneurs.
In addition to this 20% of mentored businesses are more likely to experience growth’.
If you feel like your business is not growing as you would like or you are struggling to take it to the next level then reach out to someone like me who can help. Mentoring doesn’t have to be expensive, there are many funding opportunities out there and we can help you get the right advice for your business at an affordable cost.
Put it this way - if some of the world’s best minds and most successful people have invested in mentoring then surely your business is worth that investment too?
“If you ask any successful businessperson,
they will always have had a great mentor
at some point along the road.”
